Today we unveiled the world’s first Streetlight with integrated V2X network node! On display at the ITS World Conference in Copenhagen in collaboration with Cohda Wireless and ITS Australia.
The Problem: Road safety concerns, problem intersections and poor visibility of what is happening ahead.
Solution: The V2X network node allows vehicles to send a notification via to the nearest streetlight when a car has broken down and can potentially cause a safety hazard. This enables instant adaptive lighting in reaction to a vehicle breakdown – improved safety for all motorists.
“Broken-down vehicles present a significant risk to all road-users, more especially on freeways and motorways when it’s dark or where there are blind rises or bends,”
- Dr Paul Gray, CEO of Cohda Wireless
V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) communication has been around for over a decade and is becoming increasingly common as new cars are being distributed, factory equipped, with DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communications) equipment. Yet there are limitations to this network that our world-first V2X (Vehicle to Street Light) solves: improving visibility for motorists and providing a stable link for emergency operators and asset owners. All in real time for immediate response.
